Similar to your experience, one of the first things a co-resident said to me upon announcement of my pregnancy was, "Damn, you're going to mess up the call schedule. I can't even start talking about it or I won't be able to stop myself from having another tantrum about it! Little brats. May karma smite them, so that when they have kids they suffer terrible morning sickness throughout the first AND second trimesters.

Planning a wedding is often an extremely demanding prospect. From venues to flowers to the guest list, there are endless decisions to make, many of which require research. No matter the scale of the event, coordinating family and making all of the necessary arrangements are significant undertakings. Nonetheless, many couples take on this challenge during their training. Below, two DOs who married their spouses in the pressure cooker that is medical training share their advice. They had their first date the following February and were engaged just a few months later.

Dating is pretty daunting. Dating someone in a surgical residency program or really, ANY residency is something of a myth. Surgeon and I met during his 2nd year of residency.
Residents will spend two weeks working with attending cardiologists on the inpatient consult service in which our residents are the first contact for patients with a variety of cardiovascular diseases, including arrhythmias, acute coronary syndromes, and acutely decompensated heart failure. During the two-week outpatient cardiology experience, residents will see a wide range of problems in outpatient cardiology clinics, including coronary artery disease, heart failure, cardiomyopathies, and arrhythmias. Residents participate in cardiac procedures, such as stress testing and echocardiogram interpretation. Chronic disease has become the dominant health problem in the United States, accounting for more than 75 percent of health care spending.
